A nice Beatles cover to open the second set. I enjoyed shows right up to the end, sure they weren't mind blowing events like 12/31/81 or 10/10/82 or 5/15/83 or 10/12/83 but still vastly better than anything else happening. This one was really fun. It's the Friday before the weekend series and Autzen was not even close to full yet, I was there and the rest of our squad didn't show up until Saturday. It started raining right on cue with "take you to the leader of a band" - so Grateful Dead, I saw them cue up some rain on several instances (7/27/82 is a classic - but it wouldn't stop!). Such a chill mellow scene. This was the only football Stadium venue I saw them play at (saw the '93 shows as well) , and it is a miniature football stadium. You could see the Three Sisters from the upper level - when it wasn't raining that is. I caught 8 total shows in Eugene ('83 Hult Center and the '93 & '94 Autzen)
We had a room at the Black Angus, about a 15 minute walk from the venue. You drove one exit past where everybody else was lined up, just as I walked into the lobby someone called and cancelled their room - timing is everything. I slept (as in sleeping) with two ladies in the bed that night. After the Saturday show we dragged the furniture out into the parking lot and had a huge party. No complaints from the hotel staff, but we weren't assholes and didn't destroy anything. Never had such a good time...
Reminds me that it is good to be old.
